The office of the Clerk is charged with a multiplicity of duties by law. In addition to serving as Clerk of the Court, the Clerk also serves as clerk to the County Commission and takes minutes of all actions and records.
The Clerk's primary responsibility is to establish and maintain all county records. The office of the clerk contains a library of records, such as deeds, maps, and plats pertaining to property located within the county. These records are open to the public and provide valuable data regarding the size, shape and location, legal description, and property owner of all properties situated in Pendleton County.
The County Clerk conducts countywide special and general elections, handles Early Voting, and generally acts as the Elections Administrator for the county.
Other responsibilities include:
•Issue marriage licenses, certificates of birth and death
•Sell hunting and fishing licenses for DNR
•Probate wills, appoint executors, administrators, etc. in vacation of the Commission
•Write checks for all expenditures incurred by the county officials
•Do GASB bookkeeping for county revenues and expenditures
•Prepare annual financial statement
•Payroll for county officials and employees and all reports associated with payroll
